The European Union (EU) has confirmed that it is in the process of selecting a successor to Miroslav Lajčak, who will continue to serve as the EU’s Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue until the end of January.

“The mandate of the EU Special Representative, Miroslav Lajčak, remains in effect until the end of January. The process of selecting his successor is currently underway, and we will provide updates in due time,” stated the EU’s response to Koha.

The deadline for submitting candidates closed on January 3, and the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, will soon decide on the appointment of the new Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue.

Among the most frequently mentioned candidates are former Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Havisto and Danish diplomat Peter Sørensen, both of whom have substantial experience in the Western Balkans region.
