The European Union has confirmed that it has yet to receive any response from Serbian authorities regarding Kosovo’s request for cooperation in the investigation of the terrorist attack that occurred on November 29, 2024, at the Ibër-Lepenc water canal.
The EU stated that it transmitted the request for mutual legal assistance from the Special Prosecution of Kosovo to Serbian authorities, but no reply has been received to date.
“The EU is closely following the developments and is ready to facilitate cooperation between both sides. The European Union Special Representative for Kosovo in January mediated the transmission of a request for mutual legal assistance from the Special Prosecution of Kosovo to the authorities of Serbia, regarding the attack on the Ibër-Lepenc canal. So far, no response has been received on this matter,” a spokesperson for the EU confirmed.
Kosovo’s Concerns and Ongoing Investigation
Earlier, the Special Prosecution of Kosovo indicated that Serbia was not demonstrating willingness to cooperate, despite public pledges from Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić to assist investigations and collaborate with the Kosovo Police.
Officials in Kosovo view Serbia’s approach as a disregard for international commitments and a lack of seriousness in clarifying an act that could have potentially caused severe security consequences.
The U.S. National Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is also involved in the investigation into the November 29, 2024, attack. Currently, two suspects, Dragisha and Jovan Vićentijević, are in custody, and the Prosecution has stated that there are other suspected individuals.
