The European Union has stated that Serbia violated the Ohrid Agreement by opposing Kosovo’s bid for special guest status in the Political Affairs and Democracy Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
In a written response to public television, EU officials emphasized that Serbia’s behavior in the Council of Europe clearly contradicts its obligations under the Ohrid Agreement.
Article 4 of the Ohrid Agreement explicitly states that Serbia should not oppose Kosovo’s membership in international organizations.
The request for Kosovo’s special guest status had been on the agenda for the PACE committee meeting on March 5, but it was suddenly removed from the agenda, which Serbian officials hailed as a victory. Kosovo’s delegation, present at the meeting in Paris, called the removal of the item an “unexpected development.”
