The European Union has announced that it will suspend, for 90 days, the countermeasures it had planned in response to tariffs imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump, Rks News reports.

President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, stated that the EU wants to give negotiations a chance following Trump’s decision to initiate a 90-day pause on higher import tariffs for certain affected countries.

This pause, announced by Trump yesterday, notably excludes China — whose tariffs have been increased to 125%, effectively leaving the country outside of this temporary relief period.

Trump has also announced a baseline tariff of 10% on imports from all countries, including Kosovo and other Western Balkan nations.

Furthermore, the U.S. president revealed plans to raise tariffs on dozens of countries with a trade surplus with the United States, increasing the risk of a trade war and potentially contributing to global inflation.
