A team of European Union experts is expected to come to Kosovo to conduct measurements, tests, and inspections of the Iber Bridge in Mitrovica.
The news about this development was exclusively confirmed by a source close to the EU mission in Kosovo to Klan Kosovo. The team is expected to begin work on the Iber Bridge around mid-May.
They are set to carry out inspections to assess whether the bridge is stable enough in every aspect, including its ability to withstand increased and turbulent waters.
The experts will also test the structures around the bridge.
This inspection does not necessarily mean that the bridge will be opened for vehicle traffic.
The source told Klan Kosovo that it is important for citizens to understand that when they see experts at the bridge, possibly with an increased presence of security forces, they are merely testing the bridge.
Measurements and inspections were also carried out last year by the government authorities in Kosovo.
These were done during a time when there were increasing claims about the possible opening of the bridge for vehicles.
Despite this, the bridge was not opened.
The main bridge over the Iber in Mitrovica remains closed to vehicle traffic since the war.
