Kosovar security analyst urges EU for clear action as Serbia draws closer to Russia.

Adelina Hasani from the Kosovar Centre for Security Studies voiced serious concern over Serbia’s recent political maneuvers, particularly President Aleksandar Vučić’s visit to Moscow, calling it a potential “bomb” for the Western Balkans if the European Union fails to act decisively.

Speaking on Info Magazine on Klan Kosova, Hasani emphasized that the EU must respond not only with clear messaging but with concrete actions to counter Serbia’s alignment with Russia.

“Europe is facing a moment where it must build internal unity. It’s crucial not just to send the right messages but to implement measures against Serbia,” she said.

Hasani warned that the lack of action would embolden Serbia to push boundaries, potentially opening the door for greater Russian influence in the region.

She also commented on the broader geopolitical landscape, stating that Western disunity—especially during former President Donald Trump’s administration, which tried to reset relations with Russia—has weakened efforts to contain the Kremlin. That approach, she noted, has not succeeded, as Russia continues its aggression in Ukraine.

“Europe must no longer wait for a possible shift in U.S. leadership. It needs to act now to safeguard its strategic interests and regional stability,” Hasani concluded.
