The European Union is considering imposing tariffs on U.S. exports of aircraft and cars in an effort to pressure Donald Trump to lift both existing and proposed tariffs on the EU, Rks News reports.

According to The Guardian, if such measures are taken, they are expected to significantly impact Boeing and could extend to other categories of American exports such as chemicals, electrical equipment, cameras, healthcare products, and foods like sweet potatoes and nuts.

Meanwhile, Brussels has begun consultations with member states regarding potential lawsuits against the U.S. over the 20% reciprocal tariffs announced by the American president last month.

The EU has stated that the new list of possible targets has been prepared in anticipation of a scenario in which some or all of the U.S. tariffs on the EU might remain in place beyond July – the deadline Trump has set for reaching a deal.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she believes “good agreements can be made that benefit consumers and businesses on both sides of the Atlantic,” but added that preparations are ongoing for all possible outcomes.
