The European Union plans a meeting between Kosovo and Serbia in which the status of the bridge over the Ibar River will be discussed, said EU spokesperson Nabila Masrali.
“The EU plans to include the status of the bridge in the agenda of the next Dialogue meeting,” she told Rtv21.
The EU has opposed the initiative to unilaterally open the Ibar Bridge, advocating for a political resolution of this issue between Kosovo and Serbia within the Brussels dialogue framework. According to the EU, the unilateral opening of the bridge will increase tensions in northern Kosovo.
The EU has urged Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti not to proceed with unilateral actions.
These warnings from the EU come after the Kosovo government took the initiative to open the Ibar Bridge.
The government has conducted stability tests on the bridge and is awaiting an assessment report from the company that performed the measurements and tests to determine if the bridge meets the requirements for vehicle traffic.
