The European Union Office in Kosovo has welcomed the Kosovo Government’s decision to ensure the funding of Radio Television of Kosovo (RTK), describing it as an important step toward guaranteeing the uninterrupted functioning of the country’s public broadcaster.

In a statement to the media, the EU said the government’s decision effectively resolves RTK’s financing issues for 2025, while also securing its operations during the first months of 2026.

Today’s decision of the Interim Government of Kosovo resolves the financing issues of RTK for 2025, while also ensuring the uninterrupted functioning of the public broadcaster in the early months of 2026. This is a highly welcomed development that enables RTK to continue serving the public interest,” the EU Office stated.

As Kosovo’s public broadcaster, RTK relies on institutional funding to guarantee its stable operations and editorial independence. The European Union has repeatedly emphasized the importance of having a strong, sustainable, and independent public media service as a cornerstone of democratic society.
