The European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) has had its mandate extended until June 14, 2027.
This decision was made by the Council of the European Union in Luxembourg on June 5, 2025. Following a strategic review of EULEX, the Political and Security Committee agreed to prolong the mission’s presence.
The last time EULEX’s mandate was extended was on June 5, 2023, until June 14, 2025.
EULEX was established by a Joint Action of the Council on February 4, 2008, following Kosovo’s declaration of independence. It replaced the UN mission, UNMIK, but with more limited competencies. EULEX’s powers were further reduced in 2011 and 2012 when Kosovo’s “international supervision” of independence was lifted.
The reference financial amount to cover EULEX’s expenses from June 15, 2025, to June 14, 2027, is €170,866,980. Of this sum, €64,492,980 is allocated for covering the mission’s expenses in Kosovo, while €106,374,000 is designated for supporting judicial procedures transferred to an EU Member State.
