The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has adopted Joint Opinion 1/2026 on Artificial Intelligence — the “Digital Omnibus on AI,” a package of legislative amendments affecting several existing regulations.
The Commissioner of Kosovo’s Agency for Information and Privacy, Krenare Sogojeva-Dermaku, participated in the Board’s latest meeting where the opinion was approved.
According to the Agency’s statement, the opinion supports initiatives aimed at simplifying the digital regulatory framework and enhancing competitiveness within the European Union. At the same time, the Board emphasized that any amendments must safeguard high standards of personal data protection and respect fundamental rights.
Discussions during the meeting also backed measures intended to reduce administrative burdens for organizations, including extending deadlines for reporting data breaches and promoting the use of harmonized templates for privacy and data protection impact assessments.
In addition, the EDPB adopted its 2026–2027 Work Programme, which foresees further harmonization of the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), strengthened cooperation among supervisory authorities, and the drafting of new guidance — including on anonymization, pseudonymization, the protection of children’s data, and the use of artificial intelligence.
The Agency highlighted that its active engagement in the EDPB’s work enables the Republic of Kosovo to follow the latest regulatory developments and contribute to consultative processes related to the implementation of the European data protection framework.
Kosovo’s participation in these processes is considered particularly important for the gradual alignment of domestic legislation and practices with European standards, as well as for preparing public and private institutions for evolving EU regulatory developments, especially in the field of automated systems and artificial intelligence.
