The European Parliament has confirmed that it will send a seven-member delegation to observe Serbia’s early parliamentary elections scheduled for Sunday, October 25.
David McAllister and Barry Andrews, co-chairs of the European Parliament’s Democracy Support and Election Coordination Group (DEG), announced the decision on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the delegation will be led by MEP Andreas Schieder and will include members representing a broad range of political groups within the European Parliament.
The delegation will participate in an international election observation mission led by the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe’s Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR), alongside other parliamentary partners.
The European Parliament said its delegation would operate in accordance with established international election observation methodology and the principles set out in the Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation and the Code of Conduct for International Election Observers.
Its members are expected to uphold the highest standards of independence, impartiality and objectivity, while refraining from interfering in the electoral process.
The observation mission comes ahead of a closely watched parliamentary vote in Serbia, with international observers set to assess the process in accordance with established standards.
