The Mayor of Mitrovica, Faton Peci, announced that late last night an excavator belonging to a company contracted to demolish and remove illegal structures was set on fire.
Peci strongly condemned the incident, stating that this criminal act represents a direct threat to everyone working to ensure that Mitrovica remains a city governed by public order and safety.
He called on law enforcement authorities to intensify their efforts to clarify the case as soon as possible.
Full statement:
“It is not the excavator that is demolishing — it is Mayor Faton Peci.”
Dear citizens,
Late last night, a piece of heavy machinery/excavator belonging to the company responsible for demolishing and removing illegal structures was set on fire.
I strongly condemn this cowardly and reprehensible act. This criminal action constitutes a direct threat to all those who are committed to making Mitrovica a city where law and public order prevail.
However, those who believe that such criminal and threatening acts will intimidate us are mistaken. Our fight against illegality, crime, and disorder will not stop. At the same time, I call on law enforcement authorities to intensify their actions to shed light on this case as quickly as possible.
And to all those who think this way, I want to make it clear: there will never be peace with crime — anywhere in Mitrovica, neither in the south nor in the north.
