Linda Yaccarino has stepped down from her position as Chief Executive Officer of X, after two years at the helm of the social media platform owned by the world’s richest man, Elon Musk.
The news comes just one day after Musk’s artificial intelligence company, xAI, was embroiled in controversy when its chatbot, Grok, generated posts on X that expressed admiration for Adolf Hitler and promoted antisemitic content.
It’s worth recalling that in late March, Musk’s xAI acquired X in a $33 billion deal. This move officially merged two entities that were already closely linked, but also raised questions about Linda Yaccarino’s future role.
Yaccarino announced her resignation in a post on X, expressing that she was “deeply grateful” to Musk for entrusting her with the responsibility of “protecting freedom of expression and transforming X into a platform for everyone.”
“The best is yet to come, as X enters a new chapter with xAI. I will always stand by you as you continue changing the world,” she wrote.
She did not provide a specific reason for her departure, but a source close to her confirmed to NBC News that she had been considering the decision for more than a week.
Musk responded to her resignation with a brief comment: “Thank you for your contributions.”
