Dozens of people were rushed to hospitals following an explosion at a mosque in Indonesia’s capital, Jakarta, local police reported on Friday.
According to reports, the incident occurred during Friday prayers at a mosque within a school complex in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta.
The city police chief, Asep Edi Suheri, stated that the cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
A total of 54 people were hospitalized with injuries ranging from minor to serious, including burns, Suheri said.
Local media showed footage of a police cordon around the school, with ambulances on standby. Meanwhile, images of the mosque did not show significant structural damage.
