On Friday, an explosion occurred in the water canal of the Ibër Lepenc system in Zubin Potok, threatening the water supply and electricity for hundreds of thousands of citizens in Kosovo. The attack has sparked strong reactions from the international community, which called for a full investigation and for those responsible to be held accountable.

The EU Ambassador to Kosovo, Aivo Orav, condemned the explosion and offered the European Union’s assistance to the Kosovar authorities. He emphasized that the incident should be thoroughly investigated, and those responsible should face justice.

In line with Orav’s statement, the EU Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia Dialogue, Miroslav Lajčak, highlighted that the sabotage of Kosovo’s critical infrastructure should be condemned and those responsible must be held accountable.

Stephen Doughty, the UK Minister for Europe, called the attack “horrific” and praised the swift response of emergency services to minimize damage and restore vital infrastructure. He also stressed the need for an immediate investigation and accountability for the perpetrators.

Germany’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed solidarity with Kosovo and strongly condemned the attack, demanding that those responsible be brought to justice.

KFOR, the NATO-led peacekeeping force in Kosovo, emphasized the importance of verifying the facts and reiterated that the perpetrators must be held accountable. KFOR also provided security in the area and logistical support to Kosovar institutions.

The French Embassy and the Italian Embassy also condemned the attack and called for a full investigation and for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.

This incident has raised significant concerns about the security of critical infrastructure in Kosovo and the potential consequences it could have on the daily lives of citizens.
