The fashion world is in mourning. Armani Group announced on Thursday the death of the legendary Italian designer, Giorgio Armani.

“With profound sorrow, the Armani Group announces the passing of the creator, founder, and tireless force behind it: Giorgio Armani,” the company stated.

Armani passed away at the age of 91. He was synonymous with modern Italian style and elegance, blending design mastery with business acumen. Under his leadership, the company achieved an annual turnover of around €2.3 billion ($2.7 billion).

He had been facing health issues for some time and in June missed the Men’s Fashion Week in Milan—the first time in his career he did not attend such an event.

Known as “Re Giorgio” (King Giorgio), he personally oversaw every detail of collections and business aspects, from advertising campaigns to arranging models’ hair before they walked the runway.

The company announced that a funeral home in Milan will be open for tributes this weekend, with a private burial ceremony to be held on a date yet to be announced.
