At a press conference regarding the murder of Charlie Kirk in Utah, officials stated that the investigation has made “some progress,” including tracking the suspect’s movements.
Beau Mason, Commissioner of the Utah Department of Public Safety, said the suspect arrived on campus at 11:52 a.m. local time and was observed moving through stairways to the roof and along the roof toward the shooting location.
“After the shooting, investigators tracked the suspect’s movements inside the building, where he jumped from the roof and fled the campus into a nearby neighborhood,” Mason stated.
He added that they have clear footage of the individual, but it will not be released to the public at this time. Mason said that if the investigation does not yield results, they will engage with the media again. He also spoke with Charlie Kirk’s wife, Erika, noting, “His family is devastated.”
FBI Special Agent Robert Bohls said that earlier today the “weapon believed to have been used in yesterday’s shooting” — a high-powered rifle — was found in a wooded area where they believe the perpetrator fled.
Investigators are also analyzing other evidence, including shoes, footprints, a palm print, and forearm marks. Bohls “thanked the community” for more than 130 tips received by the FBI so far. He emphasized that, at present, they do not believe the community is at risk, according to Reuters.
