Tensions between Iran and the United States are set to escalate again this Friday in Rome, as the two sides meet for the fifth round of negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program.
Representing the U.S. at the table are Steve Witkoff and Michael Anton, while Iran is represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who has firmly stated that uranium enrichment is a non-negotiable red line for Tehran.
“No enrichment, no deal,” Araghchi declared bluntly, making Iran’s stance clear.
On the other hand, U.S. officials continue to insist that no deal easing sanctions can allow Iran to persist with uranium enrichment—a core point of contention between the two sides.
Though the exact location of the meeting has not been officially disclosed, diplomatic sources suggest it will likely be held again at the Omani embassy in Rome, as it was during the previous round.
Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi continues to act as the lead mediator, attempting to bridge the gap between the two countries in a deal aimed at limiting Iran’s nuclear ambitions in exchange for a gradual lifting of U.S. sanctions.
