The deadline for political parties to submit their candidate lists for the October 12, 2025 Local Elections closes tonight at 23:59. Dozens of political entities have already completed their applications, while others are still in the process, according to Valmir Elezi, spokesperson for the Central Election Commission (CEC).
Elezi told RTKLive that once the submission period ends, the CEC will announce all applying parties and the total number of candidates on Thursday. The CEC is scheduled to convene on August 14, with the certification of the second group of political entities and their candidates on the agenda.
The spokesperson emphasized that the application deadline cannot be extended, as the Law on General Elections requires submissions to be made no later than 60 days before election day.
“The final deadline of August 13, 2025, at 23:59, set by the CEC, is in full compliance with the law and cannot be changed,” Elezi stated.
So far, the CEC has certified the first group of 10 political entities, including two citizens’ initiatives and eight independent candidates.
