The Chairman of the Committee for Foreign Affairs of the Parliament of Finland, Kimmo Kiljunen, says that Kosovo should be a member of the Council of Europe.

He said that the obstacles on the part of Serbia, for Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe, are regrettable, since he says that membership also means the protection of the rights of Serbs living in Kosovo.

Asked if this process should be connected with the establishment of the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority, he states that Kosovo has agreed to such a thing.

“This is a relevant issue. We in Finland are supporting, including me, the initiative of the European Union to facilitate the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade”.

“One of the elements you have agreed on in this dialogue process is the Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority and their right to organize”, he declared for KP.

“We are supporting that this materializes as part of the membership process of Kosovo in the Council of Europe, so we are supporting it.”
