Finland’s President, Alexander Stubb, has praised the progress made in efforts to end the war in Ukraine, attributing part of this advancement to recent meetings held by U.S. President Donald Trump.

In a statement today, Stubb emphasized that, “in the past two weeks, we may have seen more progress toward ending this war than in the last three and a half years,” highlighting the importance of Western leaders’ discussions on Ukraine’s security guarantees.

“The meeting between leaders is important and carries symbolic weight, underlining the commitment and ongoing efforts to resolve this conflict,” he added, noting Finland’s long border of more than 800 miles with Russia and the importance of historical context in shaping its perspective.

Stubb also recalled that Finland was an autonomous part of the Russian Empire from 1809 to 1917, underscoring the historical ties between the two nations that strengthen Finland’s commitment to achieving a peaceful and lasting resolution to the conflict in Ukraine.
