A fire broke out this morning at the multi-storey car park of Terminal 3 at London’s Heathrow Airport after a vehicle suddenly caught fire, British authorities confirmed.
Smoke and Rapid Spread
Dramatic footage from the scene showed thick plumes of smoke engulfing the building, while flames spread quickly across the parking facility.
The first emergency call was received at 09:03 AM, after which four fire engines and around 25 firefighters from Heathrow, Hayes, and Feltham fire stations rushed to the scene.
Road Closures and Passenger Delays
Due to the incident, part of the M4 motorway southbound near the airport was temporarily closed. Authorities advised drivers to use J3 of the M4 or J14 of the M25 as alternative routes. Several bus services to Heathrow were also disrupted, causing confusion and delays for passengers.
Situation Under Control
A Heathrow spokesperson confirmed that the fire has been brought under control, but the affected parking facility will remain temporarily closed.
“This morning, our teams responded to a fire in the Terminal 3 multi-storey car park. The fire was quickly extinguished, but the facility remains closed, which may cause traffic disruption around the airport. All other airport car parks remain operational. We apologise to passengers for the inconvenience caused,” the statement read.
