A powerful fire broke out on a cargo ship transporting around 3,000 vehicles to Mexico, including 800 electric vehicles, near the Aleutian Islands chain in Alaska, reports Rks News.
The 22-member crew of the ship Morning Midas, operated by the British company Zodiac Maritime, was forced to abandon the vessel after failing to control the fire that broke out on the deck where the electric vehicles were located, CNN reported.
Footage obtained by the U.S. Coast Guard shows large clouds of smoke rising from the rear part of the ship. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported among the crew members. Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
