The Emergency Management Agency has announced that the number of wildfires has significantly decreased over the last 12 hours, following a difficult situation yesterday. The agency had reported that 101 fires were reported in just six hours yesterday, with 48 of them still active.
Current Situation and Past Interventions
Currently, only one fire remains active, in the village of Trudë in the Municipality of Prishtina. In response to the crisis, a firefighter was injured in Ferizaj while attempting to extinguish a fire, and KFOR helicopters intervened to help with a fire in the village of Zasellë in the Municipality of Mitrovica.
President Vjosa Osmani had previously stated that the situation was difficult and required a quick, coordinated response. She confirmed that the Kosovo Security Force (FSK) was on full standby to provide immediate support to municipal and central authorities.
Call for Caution and Awareness
The Emergency Management Agency has urged citizens to refrain from starting outdoor fires and to report any incidents to emergency numbers 112, 193, and 192. The agency also noted that the majority of massive fires in Kosovo are caused by human action.
According to the European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS), 94 fires were recorded in Kosovo in 2024, which burned a total of 12,079 hectares of forests and shrubs.
