In recent days, 633 fires have been reported across Kosovo, with nine still active, the Agency for Emergency Management (AEM) announced during a joint press conference with the Kosovo Police.

AEM Director Genc Metaj stated that most fires have been contained thanks to the engagement of institutions, including KFOR’s intervention in Kçiq i Vogël and Kamenica. He called on citizens to exercise increased caution and warned that any negligence will be punished.

“The country is facing numerous fires across its territory. The AEM, in coordination with the Police and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, is fully committed to managing the 633 fires reported over the past days. Thanks to these efforts, the fires have been largely contained. KFOR intervened in Kçiq i Vogël and Kamenica. Currently, nine fire sites remain active. The overall situation in the country is stable but fragile due to droughts and intentional arson. All forms of open-space fires are prohibited. Any negligence will be dealt with seriously and will result in legal penalties. We urge citizens to take preventive measures. Inter-institutional cooperation is at the appropriate level. The challenge remains citizen awareness and management,” Metaj said.

Meanwhile, Jeton Rexhepi, Director of the Road Communications Division at the Kosovo Police, announced that 23 people have been arrested and 193 cases related to arson have been processed. He emphasized that citizens must avoid any actions that could cause fires, especially during this period of high temperatures.

“The Kosovo Police, in cooperation with the AEM, is working at full capacity to prevent fires and their consequences, whether to people or property. The Police have responded to all reported cases. So far, 23 people have been arrested and 193 cases related to fire incidents have been addressed. We appeal to citizens to be cautious, as negligence can trigger fires. High temperatures increase the risk. We urge citizens to remain vigilant so that we can reduce the number of fires and ensure greater safety for residents,” Rexhepi stated.
