The first case of the HMPV virus has been confirmed in Thessaloniki, Greece.

The case involves a 71-year-old man, whose daughter had traveled to China during the New Year’s holidays. A few days after her return, her father began to show the first symptoms.

The news was reported by the private television station Open, and official statements from doctors are expected, according to TCh.

The virus in question is the human metapneumovirus (HMPV), which has been spreading in China for several weeks and is well known to medical professionals.

Initially, the 71-year-old man visited a private clinic, and later, on January 3, he was admitted to Papanikolaou Hospital for treatment.

On Saturday, he underwent a PCR test, and by Monday, the results confirmed that he tested positive for HMPV.
