The Serb List has reacted for the first time following the agreement reached between Kosovo and the European Union on the implementation of laws on foreigners and vehicles, which affect the Serb community in Kosovo.

While explaining the procedures for obtaining documents, Serb List called on more than 10,000 Serbs without documentation to begin applying.

“For this process to succeed, it is necessary that this solution be used by our citizens—both those whose documents have been rejected and those who never received a response to their applications, as well as those who, discouraged by the situation, have never applied for documents, whether adults or minors. This is also a way to show that we are our people, that we exist, and that we demand respect for our rights, but also that we can remain in our homes. We are well aware of our people’s stance toward these documents, but at this moment this solution has prevented 10,000 of our people from remaining outside Kosovo, blocking the work of healthcare and educational institutions, and leaving our municipalities and villages without Serbs after 27 years of struggle by our citizens,” the statement said.

Regarding the EU-brokered agreement reached by Prime Minister Albin Kurti, the party stated that it was achieved with the support of “our state leadership,” referring to Belgrade.

“Dear citizens, after a difficult diplomatic battle, with the help of our state leadership, we managed to ensure that there would be no deportation of our compatriots due to lack of documentation, no separation of mothers, fathers, and children, and no entry bans for doctors, professors, and students—something that would have jeopardized the work of the University of Pristina in Mitrovica as well as our healthcare and educational institutions. We have succeeded, as our Patriarch would say, in preserving the people of Kosovo,” Serb List stated.

The party further explained the procedures for obtaining documents. Individuals working in healthcare and educational institutions who do not reside in Kosovo will be able to submit their data through their institutions and receive a 12-month residence permit, with the possibility of extension. The same applies to students studying at their university.

Citizens who live in Kosovo but lack Kosovo documents will be able to obtain them starting Monday, based on Serbian documents such as ID cards and civil status certificates (birth, marriage, and death). This, according to Serb List, will ensure protection of their right to live in these areas as well as their property rights.

Serb-majority municipalities, together with their local leadership teams, will work to ensure that the process runs smoothly and that all citizens can exercise their rights until June 16.

In conclusion, Serb List stated that it is working intensively to find a solution to the issue of vehicles and expressed confidence that, with the support of international representatives, a solution benefiting their citizens could soon be reached.
