The caretaker government led by Albin Kurti has decided to grant €100 to all students, just five days before Kosovo’s local elections.
Kurti himself made the announcement, highlighting the government’s intention to share economic growth with citizens.
“While the formation of new institutions remains on hold, the economy continues to grow, recording a 4.58% increase in GDP. Alongside this, budget revenues have risen by 10%. As a government focused on citizens’ welfare, we’ve shown that when growth is shared, it multiplies. To mark the start of the new academic year, we will allocate €100 to all students who meet the criteria, helping them and their families begin the academic year more easily,” Kurti stated.
He also announced that the government will approve the Student Mobility Scholarship today, as part of its ongoing education support policies.
“Support for students doesn’t end here. Today, we will also approve the fulfillment of one of the commitments of the Kurti 3 government — the mobility scholarship for bachelor students in need. The amount will depend on the distance between their residence and university — the farther the distance, the greater the support,” Kurti added.
The announcement has sparked political discussions, given its timing just days before the elections, with some critics suggesting it may have electoral motivations.
