Five people were killed and several others were injured as a result of Russian military attacks in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine on Saturday, regional authorities reported.

Three men aged between 24 and 69 were killed in the town of Kostiantynivka, said Donetsk Governor Vadym Filashkin on Telegram. Four other people were injured, he added.

Two men around 50 years old were killed in the town of Toretsk, about 20 kilometers southeast of Kostiantynivka.

The public broadcaster quoted Anastasia Medvedeva, spokesperson for the Donetsk prosecutor’s office, saying that a woman was injured in Kostiantynivka.

Russia also conducted attacks in the city of Kharkiv on Saturday evening, according to the regional prosecutor’s office. A private business property and nine vehicles were damaged, and a security guard was injured.

A residential building was engulfed in flames and 10 private homes were damaged in the village of Mala Danilivka in the Kharkiv region. Four people were injured, including three women and one man.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, on September 6, urged allied partners at a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group in Germany to allow Ukraine to use their weapons to strike deeper inside Russian territory.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin stated after the meeting that no single military weapon is decisive for Ukraine to defend itself against the full Russian invasion, and that the use of American weapons for deep strikes inside Russia would not turn the war in Ukraine’s favor.

The war in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022.

Russian President Vladimir Putin refers to the war as a “special military operation” to demilitarize Ukraine.

The West has responded to Russia by hitting its economy with severe sanctions.

As a result of the war, thousands have died and millions more have been displaced from their homes. /REL/
