The death toll from the devastating floods that struck Nepal on Wednesday has risen to 794, according to the latest figures released by the Nepal Police.
Police reported that, as of Sunday at 5:45 p.m. local time, 794 bodies had been recovered.
Meanwhile, Nepal’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) reported a different figure, stating that 781 people had died, while another 2,502 remain missing.
Nepalese authorities have warned that the figures may change as data continues to be updated by several agencies and does not always match.
Hundreds Trapped Inside Tunnel
Rescue teams are intensifying efforts to locate hundreds of people believed to be trapped inside a tunnel at the Trishuli-3A hydropower complex.
Experts from China and India have also joined the operation, but so far, rescue teams have received no response from inside the tunnel.
Hundreds of the approximately 2,500 people reported missing are believed to be workers at hydropower facilities across Nepal.
The flash floods that struck on Wednesday have caused extensive damage across Nepal, while search-and-rescue operations continue.
Meanwhile, in Tibet, Chinese authorities have reported 16 deaths and 546 people missing. Rescue teams are facing significant challenges in their efforts to locate survivors.
