At least 24 people, including many children, have lost their lives in Pakistan due to flash floods and house collapses caused by torrential rains since the start of the monsoon season on Wednesday.

In the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, near the Afghan border, floods have killed 11 people, including four children and three women, and injured six others, according to the Disaster Management Authority. Additionally, 56 homes have been damaged, with six completely destroyed. In the Swat Valley, 10 individuals were swept away by an overflowing river.

Meanwhile, in the country’s most populous province, Punjab, 13 fatalities have been reported as of Wednesday, eight of whom were children, who died due to collapsing walls and roofs of homes.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has warned of further intense rainfall and potential flooding until at least Tuesday. Authorities are urging heightened caution and preventative measures in the most vulnerable areas.
