For the first time in Prishtina, adjustments have been made to the school schedule during the holy month of Ramadan, including changes to class timetables and the shortening of long breaks.
The Directorate of Education of the Municipality of Pristina announced that classes will begin at 07:30, while the duration of shift transitions will be shortened and long breaks will be reduced.
According to the announcement, classes will start at 07:30, the time allocated for shift changes will be shortened, and extended breaks will be reduced.
“These measures have been undertaken in respect of those who are fasting and to facilitate the organization of the school day,” the Pristina Directorate of Education stated in a Facebook announcement.
Education authorities emphasized that despite the changes in scheduling, neither the number nor the duration of class periods will be reduced. The teaching process will conclude no later than 17:00, while maintaining the quality and continuity of instruction.
The Director of Education for the Municipality of Pristina, Samir Shahini, stated that the decision to shorten shift transition times and reduce long breaks — ensuring that the school day ends no later than 17:00 — does not violate the law, according to Ekonomia Online.
In a written response to the news agency Ekonomia Online, he confirmed that the decision does not reduce either the duration of individual lessons or the total number of classes.
“There is no violation of the law, as there is no reduction in either the duration of class periods or the total number of classes,” he stated briefly.
Moments earlier, the Directorate of Education officially announced the decision made for the holy month of Ramadan.
“Dear students, parents, and staff of the capital’s schools, due to the holy month of Ramadan and in respect of those who are fasting, the Directorate of Education has reviewed the organization of the teaching process. It has been decided that classes will begin at 07:30, shift transition times will be shortened, and extended breaks will be reduced. These changes are intended to ensure that the teaching process concludes no later than 17:00, without reducing the number or duration of class periods, thereby preserving the quality and continuity of instruction,” the Directorate announced.
