Irakli Koçollari, former head of Albania’s National Intelligence Service (SHIK) during the early 1990s, has stated that Serbia continues to maintain what he described as active and potentially dangerous positions toward Kosovo, emphasizing that the mentality of a “greater state” remains deeply rooted in its political approach.
Speaking on the television program “Debat Plus,” Koçollari argued that Belgrade’s actions demonstrate ongoing hegemonic ambitions toward Kosovo, citing the armed attack in Banjska, where a Kosovo Police officer was killed, as an example.
“In this sense, they remain active, and we must clearly understand that,” Koçollari said. “They have long been influenced by ideas of a greater state and ambitions for dominance. They killed our police officer and have still not handed over the perpetrator, despite clear evidence, including video recordings.”
Koçollari stressed that Kosovo’s institutions must remain vigilant and determined in safeguarding national sovereignty and security, highlighting the importance of state preparedness against any potential acts of aggression.
“We must remain confident and prepared to defend our country, Kosovo,” he stated. “There are devoted and capable patriots who know how to confront any form of Serbian aggression with wisdom, professionalism, and dedication.”
His remarks come amid ongoing regional tensions and security concerns, as Kosovo authorities and international partners continue to monitor developments related to stability and cross-border security in the Western Balkans.
