The Ambassador of Kosovo to Canada, Adriatik Kryeziu, has announced that he met for lunch with the former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien, 90 years old.
Through an article on Facebook, Kryeziu has published some pictures of Chretien playing basketball with Kosovar refugees in 1999.
In 1999, exactly 25 years after the meeting and the warm reception by the then Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien for the Kosovo diaspora in Canada, I responded to the invitation of Erin O’Toole, a former Federal Member of Parliament and a great friend of Kosovo, for a lunch with the former Prime Minister Chretien, the General of the Air Command in the framework of the NATO air intervention against Serbian targets – Billie Flynn, the Major General of the infantry of the Canadian troops in Kosovo – Mike Ward, and Dani Brajshori from the Kosovo diaspora in Canada, for commemorating the 25th anniversary of the liberation of Kosovo, the integration and socialism of our diaspora in Canada, as well as the successes of the Republic of Kosovo and excellent bilateral relations”.
Next, Kryeziu announced that as a gift from the former Canadian prime minister he received a basketball with an inscription “Bravo Kosova”.
“On this occasion and in a symbolic way, I accept the ball with the Prime Minister’s message, which symbolizes and commemorates the joint basketball game held 25 years ago between Prime Minister Chretien and newly arrived refugees from Kosovo in the “Borden Refugee Camp” Canada.
Mixed emotions about the past, the successful integration of our diaspora in Canada and the development of Kosovo and its people over the years”.
