Former CIA Director and retired General David Petraeus has stated that he does not anticipate a near-term meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.
“There isn’t much at the moment to make us believe that would happen,” Petraeus told ABC News.
According to him, “Vladimir Putin clearly has no intention of doing this unless he is granted additional territory, which is heavily fortified, and Russian forces would have to fight for years at the pace they are currently moving.”
Petraeus described Putin as “the obstacle to peace” and called on the United States to increase support for Ukraine:
“What we need to do is change these dynamics by assisting Ukraine far more than we have up to now. Removing restrictions on them, seizing $300 billion in frozen reserves… more sanctions against Russia, even including Gazprom Bank.”
