American Ambassador in Belgrade, Christopher Hill, has once again sparked reactions with his statements regarding Kosovo-Serbia relations.

Ambassador Hill’s assertion that Serbia could join the European Union even without de jure recognition of Kosovo is being criticized and deemed harmful.

Addressing this issue, former Dutch Ambassador to Kosovo, Robert Bosch, spoke to “Bota sot.”

To begin with, he expressed that, diplomatically, Ambassador Hill is showing ‘local favoritism’ towards Serbia.

Bosch assessed that Vučić was “foolish” for not signing the Ohrid agreement, which only required de facto recognition of Kosovo, not de jure recognition.

“Remarks indicate that Hill, as we say in diplomatic terms, appears to be showing bias. I believe Ambassador Rohde, through his post on ‘X,’ clearly opposed Hill’s statement regarding recognition and even corrected it in very diplomatic language.

Vučić acted foolishly. By not accepting the formal Ohrid agreement, which remains on the table, ‘Ohrid’ could have given him the opportunity to ‘save’ de jure recognition, but only de facto recognition, as was the case with BRD and DDR. He truly scored an own goal,” stated the former ambassador.

Furthermore, Hill emphasized that Hill’s ‘praise’ for Serbia is a bad thing, considering that the new Serbian government includes two ministers who are on the U.S. blacklist.

“And as for the praise, it is even worse, as democracy is under pressure and the new government includes two ministers on the U.S. blacklist. But perhaps an autocratic government makes investments easy even if people do not like it,” concluded Robert Bosch for “Bota sot.”
