Following the arrest of former KLA fighter Mithat Llozhani by Serbian authorities at the Serbia-Croatia border, Hysni Gucati, head of the Kosovo War Veterans Organization (OVL-UÇK), has called on veterans, families of fallen fighters, and citizens to avoid traveling through Serbian territory.
Gucati stressed that the detentions are based on lists maintained by Serbia and that arrests could last a year or longer. He appealed:
“We have sworn to God, do not travel through Serbian territory. Even ordinary citizens should avoid it, let alone KLA members.”
According to Gucati, these actions are causing stress for families of the detainees and provide Serbia with an excuse to target former KLA members. He also noted that Llozhani is a verified KLA veteran and that his arrest was solely due to carrying his veteran ID card.
Serbian authorities, through Interior Minister Ivica Dačić, stated that Llozhani was arrested under suspicion of committing war crimes against civilians.
For context, on January 21 this year, 77-year-old Haziri Haziri was released after being arrested on September 8, 2025, also under claims of war crimes.
