Former President of the Republic of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, has publicly expressed her support for the “March for Freedom,” which will take place on September 12 at 14:00 in Skënderbeu Square in Prishtina.
Jahjaga welcomed representatives of the civic platform “Liria ka Emër” (Freedom Has a Name), with discussions focusing on the importance of the march and its message of support for former Kosovo leaders Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi, who are facing proceedings before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.
The march comes just days before the expected September 16 verdict, making it a significant moment for public expression in Kosovo. Organisers have stressed that the initiative is intended as a civic gathering centred on justice, dignity, historical memory and respect for Kosovo’s liberation struggle.
During their visit, representatives of “Liria ka Emër” also visited the “Çast” Museum, dedicated to survivors of wartime sexual violence. The museum uses art and conceptual storytelling to document their pain, experiences and the challenges they have faced, including the stigma that many continue to encounter in everyday life.
The organisers thanked the Jahjaga Foundation and former President Jahjaga for their hospitality and support.
The message from Jahjaga adds another prominent voice to a growing wave of support for the September 12 gathering. Other public figures, including artists and political actors, have also called for broad civic participation.
