During her visit to Jakarta, Indonesia, where she participated in the 9th World Peace Forum, former President of Kosovo Atifete Jahjaga met with José Ramos-Horta, the President of the Democratic Republic of East Timor and 1996 Nobel Peace Prize laureate.

In a post shared on Facebook, Jahjaga expressed her gratitude to President Ramos-Horta for East Timor’s recognition of the independence of the Republic of Kosovo, which took place during her presidential mandate.

“At the conclusion of my stay in Jakarta, Indonesia, I met with the President of the Democratic Republic of East Timor, Mr. José Ramos-Horta, the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize laureate. I thanked him for East Timor’s recognition of the independence of the Republic of Kosovo — a recognition that occurred during my presidency,” Jahjaga wrote.

Jahjaga further noted that she requested President Ramos-Horta’s support in encouraging additional recognitions of Kosovo’s independence from several Asian nations, including the Philippines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar.

She emphasized that strong diplomatic relations with countries around the world remain a vital condition for Kosovo’s continued development and international standing.
