Former New York Mayor Eric Adams granted Albanian citizenship

Eric Adams, the former mayor of New York City, has been granted Albanian citizenship.

The decision was approved through a special decree signed by Bajram Begaj on the same day.

According to the decree, based on Law No. 113/2020, Eric Adams has been granted Albanian citizenship, with the decision taking immediate effect and set to be published in the Official Gazette. It is also noted that Adams has been issued an Albanian passport upon his request.

The former New York mayor had previously visited Albania in October 2025, where he met with Prime Minister Edi Rama.
