Former Kosovo police officer Arbnor Spahiu has been released from a Serbian prison on Friday, his family has confirmed.

His relative, Shkëlzen Spahiu, announced on Facebook that Arbnor had entered Kosovo on Friday evening.

Arbnor Spahiu has just stepped onto the soil of the Republic of Kosovo. We thank you on behalf of the family for the support you have given us during these difficult days. Arbnor is in good health. We hope this will be the last such case for our citizens,” he wrote.

Arbnor Spahiu was arrested on June 7 of this year by Serbian police at the border crossing while entering from Hungary into Serbia.

Serbian judicial authorities initially ordered one month of pre-trial detention, which was later extended several times under accusations of aggravated murder.

He had been accused by Serbian authorities of involvement in the Banjska incident, which occurred in northern Kosovo in 2023, during which Kosovo Police officer Afrim Bunjaku was killed.
