The South Korean police have been instructed to urgently stop the travel plans of Kim Yong-hyun, the former Minister of Defense, whose resignation was accepted this morning by President Yoon.
This move comes after authorities deemed Kim a flight risk, according to local media reports.
A senior police official, Woo Jong-soo, said at a meeting today that he had instructed a security chief to enforce an “urgent travel ban” on Kim and review any other necessary measures.
Kim has apologized for his role in the shocking military law declaration made on Tuesday. Several local media reports suggest that it was Kim who had proposed to President Yoon the idea of declaring a state of military emergency – a claim reiterated by Interior Minister Lee Sang-min during a press conference this morning.
