SEOUL, South Korea – Former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol has been re-arrested following a court decision approving a new detention request linked to charges of attempting to impose martial law in December. The Seoul Central District Court granted the request based on claims by a special prosecutor that Yoon poses a risk of destroying key evidence.

The court’s ruling sent Yoon back into a detention facility near the capital, just four months after his release in March. His initial arrest was blocked in January by the same court, which had then allowed him to stand trial without being held in custody, according to the Associated Press.

The criminal case is being led by a team under Special Prosecutor Cho Eun-suk, who is pursuing additional charges against Yoon for alleged authoritarian actions. These include obstruction of official duties, abuse of power, and falsification of official documents.

This renewed arrest could mark the beginning of a prolonged period of detention for the former president, who is facing serious legal scrutiny over his conduct during and after his time in office.
