Four individuals have been arrested after causing damage to the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London, using pastry cream and pieces of apple in an unusual act of vandalism.
The incident occurred early Saturday morning and resulted in damage to the protective display case housing the Imperial State Crown.
According to the Metropolitan Police, all four suspects were detained on charges of criminal damage and have been taken into custody for further questioning.
Due to the ongoing investigation, the Jewel House at the Tower of London has been temporarily closed to visitors.
The activist group “Take Back Power”, which describes itself as a new non-violent civil movement, claimed responsibility for the act.
In a statement, the group said the action was intended to demand the establishment of a permanent citizens’ assembly — a so-called “People’s Chamber” — with the authority to tax extreme wealth and “fix Britain.”
