The Bahamas has become the fourth country to recognize Kosovo within a single year, following Syria, Sudan, and Kenya. With this latest recognition, the total number of countries recognizing Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state has reached 121.

Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani announced on Friday that she signed a bilateral agreement in the capital of the Bahamas, formalizing both the recognition of Kosovo and the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Caribbean island nation.

The Commonwealth of The Bahamas and the Republic of Kosovo announce that the Commonwealth of The Bahamas has recognized the Republic of Kosovo as an independent and sovereign state. Both states also announce the establishment of diplomatic relations between them, effective from the date of signing the Joint Agreement on the establishment of diplomatic relations, in accordance with international law and the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations,” the joint statement said.

Meanwhile, Bahamas Prime Minister Philip Davis stated that Kosovo can rely on the Bahamas as a trustworthy and stable partner, underlining the commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation.

The four recognitions secured this year come after a noticeable slowdown in Kosovo’s recognition process in recent years. Prior to these developments, Israel was the last country to recognize Kosovo, in 2021.

As with previous recognitions, the latest developments have angered Serbia, which continues to actively oppose Kosovo’s independence on the international stage.
