France carried out secret drills for the deployment of troops to Ukraine in the event of an attack from Belarus. French special forces conducted exercises last fall, simulating a potential intervention in Ukraine, according to Intelligence Online.
The French military spent several weeks training at a highly classified location as part of the operation codenamed “Perseus.” The drills were based on lessons learned from Ukraine’s defense against the Russian invasion in February 2022.
Over 3,000 French soldiers participated, training in terrains designed to mimic the area around the Dnipro River, north of Kyiv. The exercises focused on preparing French forces to counter a potential Russian advance from Belarus.
French President Emmanuel Macron has repeatedly stated that NATO should discuss the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine.
