As expected, French President Emmanuel Macron has officially recognized the State of Palestine, joining a wave of countries that have done so in recent weeks.

Before announcing France’s recognition at the United Nations, Macron declared that the time had come to end the war in Gaza and to secure the release of the 48 remaining hostages held by Hamas.

He stressed that the world is now “moments away from being able to achieve peace” and added: “We cannot wait any longer.”

Macron condemned the October 7 attacks and underlined that peace in the region can only be built on the principle of two states living side by side.

“Nothing justifies the ongoing war,” Macron said, emphasizing that “everything obliges us to bring it to a definitive end.”
