French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot has announced that Paris is determined to recognize the State of Palestine, viewing it as its responsibility as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, reports Rks News.

In an interview with RTL, Barrot said that France will take concrete steps during the United Nations Conference on Palestine, which will be held from June 17 to 20 in New York, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia.

The goal of the conference is to eliminate obstacles to the recognition of the Palestinian state and to create conditions for a lasting solution. However, Barrot clarified that France’s recognition would be conditional upon the release of hostages by Hamas, its disarmament, recognition of Israel, and reforms within the Palestinian Authority.

This stance comes as several European countries—such as Spain, Ireland, and Norway—have already taken steps to recognize Palestine, increasing pressure for a two-state solution in the Middle East.
