A 14-year-old student fatally stabbed a school official and wounded a police officer with a knife during a bag check at a school in France.
The student was immediately arrested at the school in Nogent, north of the Burgundy city of Dijon. He was a student representative in the school’s anti-bullying program and had been briefly suspended this year for disrupting classes.
Such deadly attacks are rare in France, but concerns about school violence are increasing.
President Emmanuel Macron posted on platform X that “France is in mourning, and the Government is mobilized to curb crime.”
The Ministry of Education introduced school bag checks in some schools this year, and this spring, 186 knives were confiscated and 32 individuals were detained, the Ministry of Interior announced.
